  • Alert! Up to 70% of small group health administrators took advantage of AB 1446. So chances are your small group health plan is “grandmothered.”
  • Grandmothered – In July of 2014, Governor Brown signed AB 1446, the “Grandmothering” bill. This allowed Small Groups that renewed in September, October, November and December of 2014 the option to keep their pre-ACA plans for one more year, but in NO case beyond December 31, 2015.
  • Those expiring “Grandmothered” policy are coming up for renewal soon, and policyholders are going to be faced with converting to unfamiliar ACA compliant plans. The Carriers have not yet release guidelines on how they are going to generate renewals, but we think that they will map your current pre-ACA plan to comparable ACA complaint plans. If you elect to do nothing at renewal, your plan will default to the ACA plan the carrier chooses for you.
